NET Programme

The Native-speaking English Teachers (NET) programme is an educational initiative introduced by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. It aims to provide qualified teachers from overseas nations to work in government-run schools. To be considered for this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Native-English speaker or possess an exceptional command of the English language.
  • Age should be below 58 years.

Key Details About The Programme

  • Language Proficiency: Native-level English skills or an outstanding command of the language are mandatory.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must be below 58 years of age.
  • Monthly Salary: The salary ranges from HKD 25,000 to HKD 60,000, depending on the candidate’s experience.
  • Accommodation Assistance: The program organizers will assist in finding suitable accommodation and provide a monthly housing allowance of HKD 20,000.
  • Round-Trip Airfare: The program organizers cover the cost of round-trip airfare for the teacher and up to four family members.
  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance is provided to support the teacher’s transition to Hong Kong.
  • Medical Insurance: A stipend is provided to cover the costs of medical insurance.

Programme Structure 

The NET program is divided into two categories: Primary NET (PNET) and Secondary NET (SNET).

PNET: This program focuses on teaching primary students between the ages of 6 and 12. Class sizes typically range from 30 to 37 students. To be eligible for PNET, applicants should hold a degree in English, possess a teaching qualification, and have a TEFL TESOL certificate.

SNET: The SNET program is designed for teaching secondary students with class sizes ranging from 40 to 45 students. To qualify for SNET, applicants must have a degree in English, a post-graduate diploma in education, a TEFL TESOL certificate, and a minimum of one year of experience teaching secondary students.
